Play Ludo online for free
Ludo is the classic race game on the cross-shaped board: two to four colours take turns rolling the die, bring their four pieces out of the house with a six, run once around the board and move into their home column. Land on another colour's piece and it goes back home.
On PanicLines you play for free in your browser on phone, tablet and computer, with no download and no sign-up. Every seat at the board is yours to choose: a person or the AI at three levels. Play alone against up to three computers, or with family and friends on one device.
Rules
- Each colour has four pieces waiting in its house. A six brings a piece onto the start field, and every six earns another roll. While a piece is still at home, the start field must be cleared.
- If no piece can move, you get three tries to roll a six. Otherwise move one piece by the number rolled; you may jump over other pieces but not land on your own.
- Land on a piece of another colour and it is captured and goes back home. Capturing is optional; switch on forced capture if you like.
- You need the exact number to get into and move within the home column, and you may not jump your own pieces there. The first to bring all four pieces home wins.
Players and AI levels
- For each of the four colours, choose: empty, person or AI. Two to four colours play, at least one of them a person.
- Easy moves any piece it may, Medium follows rules of thumb such as capturing, coming out and getting away, Hard works through every roll of the next opponents.
- Two, three or four players on one device: just pass the phone around, and the wins of every colour are counted.
Controls
- Tap the big die to roll. Pieces that can move pulse and their landing field is marked; tap a piece and it walks field by field.
- If only one piece can move, it moves by itself. The AI's turns run at a readable pace, faster with the fast-forward button.
- On a computer you can also pick the die and pieces with Tab and Enter; “Reduce motion” turns the animations off.
Tips and strategy
- Come out early: pieces at home do nothing. Use a six to bring a piece out almost every time.
- Keep your distance: a piece one to six fields ahead of an opponent is in danger. Move it away, or stay behind when you can.
- Avoid other start fields: while an opponent waits at home, any piece on its start field is captured with its next six.
- Pack the home column: move pieces in the home column as far up as you can to make room for the next ones.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Ludo free here?
- Yes. You play right in your browser with no sign-up and no download, and there is nothing to buy.
- Can four people play Ludo on one phone?
- Yes. Set up to four colours to “Person” and pass the phone or tablet around. The AI can take any other seat.
- Do you have to capture?
- No, capturing is optional. If you want to play with forced capture, switch it on in the settings; it applies from the next game.
- Is my game saved?
- Yes. A game in progress survives reloading the page. Without an account it stays in this browser; with a PanicLines account it is kept in your account, so you can carry on on any device.
