Play Patience (Klondike solitaire) online for free
Patience is classic Klondike solitaire, the card game many people know from their first PC: 52 cards are dealt into seven columns and the stock, and you sort them by suit from ace to king onto the four foundations. Once every card is up there, you have won.
It is free to play in your browser, with no download, no ads and no sign-up, on phone, tablet and PC. The game in progress is saved after every move and carries on the next time you visit.
How it works
- The deal: seven columns, the first with one card and the seventh with seven, only the top card of each face up. The other 24 cards form the stock at the top left.
- On the seven columns you build down in alternating colours, so a red 6 goes on a black 7. You may move whole runs of face-up cards at once. Only a king fits on an empty column.
- On the foundations at the top right each suit starts with its ace, then 2, 3 and up to the king. You may also take a card back from there onto the columns.
- The stock gives one or three cards per turn. When it is empty, a tap turns the drawn cards over again, as often as you like.
Variants and helpers
- Draw 1: one card per turn from the stock, the relaxed variant.
- Draw 3: three cards per turn, only the top one is playable. The classic, harder variant.
- Undo has no limit and counts as a move. Hint shows a useful move.
- Auto-complete: once every card is face up and the stock is empty, the game moves the rest to the foundations for you.
- Stuck? The game notices when no move helps any more, and often tells you how many moves to take back to make the game winnable again.
- Statistics: games, wins, win rate, best time and fewest moves, kept separately for draw 1 and draw 3.
Controls
- Tap a card and it jumps to the best place, foundations first. Tap it again right away and it tries the next one.
- Drag with your finger or the mouse, whole runs too. A double-click sends a card straight to its foundation.
- Keyboard: Z or Ctrl+Z to undo, Space to draw from the stock, H for a hint. Tab reaches every card and Enter plays it.
Tips for more wins
- Face-down cards first: a move that turns over a card on the columns is usually worth more than one from the stock.
- Dig into the big columns: the most face-down cards sit on the right. The sooner you work on them, the more options you have later.
- Don't waste empty columns: an empty column only takes a king. Clear it once a king is ready whose move uncovers something.
- Don't rush everything to the foundations: low cards belong there quickly, but you may still need middle ones to build on.
- Keep track in draw 3: the order of the stock only changes when you play a card from it. Remember what is coming and plan the next pass.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Patience free?
- Yes. You play right in your browser, with no download, no ads and no sign-up. There is nothing to buy.
- Can every game be won?
- No. Just like with real cards the deck is shuffled at random, and not every deal works out. When a game runs into a dead end, the game tells you how far to go back, or that only a new deal helps.
- Can I play Patience on my phone?
- Yes. A tap sends a card to the best place, and you can drag cards with your finger too. You can add the game to your home screen and keep playing offline.
- Is my game saved?
- Yes. Without an account the game in progress and your statistics stay in this browser. With a free PanicLines account they are kept in your account and carry on on every device.
