BrickStorm is a brick breaker in the spirit of Breakout and Arkanoid: you slide a paddle along the bottom while a wall of bricks waits at the top. Keep the ball in play and knock the bricks out one by one – once the wall is gone, the level is done.

It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no sign-up, on phone, tablet and PC. The "Neon Harbour" campaign takes you through 10 levels that get harder as you go, with stars and personal bests for each one.

How it works

The ball starts resting on your paddle; you launch it when you are ready.
Where the ball hits the paddle sets the angle it bounces off at: almost straight up in the middle, flat (60°) at the edge. How fast the paddle is moving makes no difference.
When the last ball drops out at the bottom, you lose a life. You start with 3 lives and earn another every 25,000 points (up to 5).
Every tenth hit makes the ball a little faster, up to a cap. After a lost life it starts at the base speed again.

Levels, bricks and power-ups

10 levels in the "Neon Harbour" world, unlocked one after another. Up to three stars per level: cleared, no life lost, under the target time.
Bricks: normal bricks break with one hit (50 points), hard ones take two or three (100 points), metal is indestructible and does not need clearing.
Power-ups drop as capsules from broken bricks: Wide widens the paddle for 20 seconds, Multiball adds two extra balls, Slow slows the ball down for 15 seconds.
Points: a combo bonus for bricks broken without touching the paddle (×1.5 from the 3rd, ×2 from the 6th), 100 per capsule caught, and at the end 1,000 per life left plus 10 per second under the target time.

Controls

Phone and tablet: put a finger anywhere on the lower half of the screen and drag – the paddle moves along with it instead of jumping under your finger, so your thumb never hides the action. Tap to launch the ball.
Mouse: the paddle follows the mouse; click to launch.
Keyboard: ← → or A D to move, Space to launch, P or Esc to pause.
Switching tabs or apps pauses the game automatically.

Tips for more stars

Aim with the edge: hit the ball with the end of the paddle and it flies off at a flat angle – handy for bricks at the sides or behind gaps.
Get above the wall: once you open a gap to the top, the ball bounces around behind the wall and breaks lots of bricks without touching the paddle – that is where the big combo bonus comes from.
Ball before capsule: never chase a capsule while the ball is on its way down. A lost life costs you the second star and 1,000 points at the end.
Use Slow: when the ball gets too fast for you, the Slow capsule is your best friend – it lasts 15 seconds.
Use metal as a cushion: metal bricks do not count towards clearing the level, but they deflect the ball reliably. Use them to reach the bricks beside or behind them.
