Play FreeCell solitaire online for free
FreeCell is the solitaire where you see everything: all 52 cards are dealt face up into eight columns, and four free cells give you room to park cards. You sort the cards by suit from ace to king onto the four foundations. Luck hardly matters, nearly every game can be won with some thought.
It is free to play in your browser, with no download, no ads and no sign-up, on phone, tablet and PC. Game numbers 1 to 32000 are the same deals as in FreeCell on Windows, and the game in progress is saved after every move.
How it works
- The deal: every card face up in eight columns, seven cards in the first four and six in the others.
- On the eight columns you build down in alternating colours, so a red 6 goes on a black 7. Any card fits on an empty column.
- The four free cells at the top left hold one card each. You can move several cards at once only as far as free cells and empty columns allow: (free cells + 1), doubled for every empty column.
- On the foundations at the top right each suit starts with its ace, then 2, 3 and up to the king. Once every card is up there, you have won.
Game numbers and helpers
- Game #1 to #32000: the same deals as in FreeCell on Windows. Enter a number to replay a game or play the same one as your friends, or let the game pick one at random.
- Undo has no limit and counts as a move. Hint shows a useful move, where possible one that leads to a win.
- Home by themselves: cards no other card needs any more go up to the foundations after your move. Once everything is in order, “Auto-complete” plays the rest.
- Still winnable? A solver works in the background. When a game runs into a dead end, it tells you how many moves to take back to make it winnable again.
- Statistics: games, wins, win rate, best time and fewest moves.
Controls
- Tap a card and it jumps to the best place: foundations first, then a matching column, an empty column, a free cell. Tap it again right away and it tries the next one.
- Drag with your finger or the mouse, whole runs too. A double-click sends a card straight to its foundation.
- Keyboard: Z or Ctrl+Z to undo, H for a hint. Tab reaches every card and Enter plays it.
Tips for more wins
- Save your cells: every card in a cell nearly halves how many cards you can move at once. Only park what will come out again soon.
- Empty columns are gold: an empty column doubles the cards you can move. Clear short columns early.
- Free aces and twos first: look where the low cards lie right after the deal and dig towards them.
- Think, then move: with every card face up you can plan several moves ahead. Undo helps when a plan does not work out.
Frequently asked questions
- Is FreeCell free?
- Yes. You play right in your browser, with no download, no ads and no sign-up. There is nothing to buy.
- Can every game be won?
- Almost. Of the 32000 classic games only game #11982 cannot be won, and a random game never picks it. When your game runs into a dead end, the game tells you how far to go back.
- Are the game numbers the same as on Windows?
- Yes. The deals are shuffled the same way as in FreeCell on Windows, so game #1 here is game #1 there.
- Can I play FreeCell on my phone?
- Yes. All eight columns fit the screen even when the phone is upright. A tap sends a card to the best place, and you can drag cards with your finger too. You can add the game to your home screen and keep playing offline.
- Is my game saved?
- Yes. Without an account the game in progress and your statistics stay in this browser. With a free PanicLines account they are kept in your account and carry on on every device.
