Rummage is a matching game with real physics: at the start of each level, 100 colourful everyday items tumble into a square jar – apples, mugs, doughnuts, ducks, dice and many more. They land every which way on top of each other until the jar is full to the brim. Every item is in there at least twice, and you hunt for the pairs.
Tap two matching items and they vanish; the heap settles. Whatever is hidden you push aside with your finger, or you turn the whole jar so everything tumbles around again. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no sign-up, on phone, tablet and PC.
How it works
- Tap an item to select it. Tap a matching one next and both vanish. A second item that does not match gets selected instead.
- Drag to push items aside. They have different weights, they roll, tip over and knock into others.
- Turn the jar: drag next to the items and you turn the jar around its centre like a knob. Gravity stays down, so the whole heap tumbles along. Let go and the jar clicks onto the nearest side – any of its four walls can be the floor.
- Empty the jar and the level is done. If time runs out first, the level is lost.
Levels, points and helpers
- 100 levels, unlocked one after another, each with a jar full of 50 pairs. The clock gets shorter from level to level: 275 seconds in level 1, 150 seconds in level 100.
- Look-alikes: even level 1 has some items that look alike (same colour or shape, such as apple, tomato and cherries). From level 30 on, every item looks like another one in the jar.
- Points: 100 per pair. Find the next pair within 3 seconds and the combo rises to ×1.5, ×2 and up to ×3. Every second left on the clock is worth 10 points at the end.
- Stars: one for clearing the level, two with more than 30 % of the time left, three without helpers and more than half of the time left.
- Helpers per level: Magnet twice (pulls a matching pair up to the middle), Shake twice (loosens the heap) and +15 seconds once.
- Calm: a mode with no clock and no points, with endless new heaps – just rummage.
Controls
- Phone and tablet: tap to select, drag on an item to push it, drag next to the items to turn the jar.
- Mouse: click to select, drag to push items or turn the jar.
- Keyboard: ← → or Q E turn the jar by one side, H Magnet, S Shake, P or Esc pause.
- The game is made for portrait mode. With "Reduced motion" the heap falls faster and nothing wobbles.
Tips for more stars
- Start at the top: tap the pairs you can see right away first. Every pair makes room and the heap settles.
- Chain combos: spotted two pairs at once? Tap them straight after each other. Within 3 seconds the combo climbs up to ×3.
- Turn instead of digging: when an item lies deep down, turn the jar a quarter or half turn. The bottom tips to the side or the top, and hidden items come to the front.
- Look closely: in later levels almost every item has a look-alike. Watch the shape and the details, not just the colour.
- Save your helpers: the third star is for clearing without helpers. Shake pays off when you are stuck, the Magnet when time is about to run out.
