Play Spider Solitaire online for free
Spider Solitaire is the two-deck patience game many people know from their first PC: 104 cards are dealt into ten columns and the stock, and you sort them into runs from king down to ace in one suit. Every completed run leaves the table; after eight runs you have won.
It is free to play in your browser, with no download, no ads and no sign-up, on phone, tablet and PC. The game in progress is saved after every move and carries on the next time you visit.
How it works
- The deal: ten columns, the first four with six cards and the others with five, only the top card of each face up. The other 50 cards form the stock at the top right.
- On the ten columns you build down regardless of suit: any 6 goes on any 7. Any card fits on an empty column.
- Several cards only move together when they run down in the same suit. Mixed runs have to be rebuilt card by card.
- The stock deals one card onto every column, five times per game. This only works when no column is empty.
- Completed runs from king down to ace in one suit are put away at the top left by themselves.
Difficulty and helpers
- 1 suit: all cards are spades, every fitting card builds a run. The easy start; most games can be won.
- 2 suits: spades and hearts. Runs need sorting, which takes some planning.
- 4 suits: the classic for the patient, rarely won.
- Undo has no limit and counts as a move. Hint shows a useful move or suggests dealing.
- Stuck? The game notices when no move turns up a card or completes a run any more, and offers undo or a new deal.
- Statistics: games, wins, win rate, best time and fewest moves, kept separately for 1, 2 and 4 suits.
Controls
- Tap a card and it jumps to the best place together with the cards on top of it, preferably onto the same suit. Tap it again right away and it tries the next one.
- Drag with your finger or the mouse, whole runs too. A tap on the stock deals.
- Keyboard: Z or Ctrl+Z to undo, Space or D to deal, H for a hint. Tab reaches every card and Enter plays it.
Tips for more wins
- Same suit first: a 6 on a 7 of its own suit keeps the run movable; on another suit it is stuck there.
- Turn up face-down cards: every card you uncover opens new options. Dig into the columns with the fewest face-down cards first; they free a column soonest.
- Empty columns are gold: they let you re-sort mixed runs. Don't fill them with a single card too early.
- Sort before you deal: tidy up as much as you can before dealing, because every new card covers a column.
- Practise with 1 suit: once you know the tricks there, you will win far more often with 2 suits as well.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Spider Solitaire free?
- Yes. You play right in your browser, with no download, no ads and no sign-up. There is nothing to buy.
- Can every game be won?
- No. Just like with real cards the decks are shuffled at random, and not every deal works out. With one suit most games can be won, with four suits only a few. When a game runs into a dead end, the game tells you.
- What is the difference between 1, 2 and 4 suits?
- You always play with 104 cards. With one suit they are all spades and every card fits into any run. With two or four suits you have to sort the runs by suit before they can be put away.
- Can I play Spider Solitaire on my phone?
- Yes. All ten columns fit on the screen even in portrait mode. A tap sends a card to the best place, and you can drag cards with your finger too. You can add the game to your home screen and keep playing offline.
- Is my game saved?
- Yes. Without an account the game in progress and your statistics stay in this browser. With a free PanicLines account they are kept in your account and carry on on every device.
