Play match-3 online for free: BrewBurst
BrewBurst is a match-3 game set in a cosy witch's kitchen: you swap two neighbouring ingredients until three of a kind line up, and special shapes brew potions. The twist is the cauldron itself. From level 6 on it tilts with every move in the direction you swapped, and all ingredients slide that way instead of down. New ingredients come in from the opposite side.
You play for free in your browser, with no sign-up and nothing to download, on phone, tablet and PC. There are no lives, no energy and no purchases: if a level goes wrong, you start it again right away. A level takes about two to five minutes.
How to play
- Swap two neighbouring ingredients. If three or more of a kind then line up in a row or column, they vanish; a 2 × 2 square counts too. A swap that matches nothing is taken back and costs no move.
- Whatever vanishes fills the cauldron gauge. When new matches fall into place, you get a cascade, and every further round scores more points.
- Every level has a recipe of one to three lines, for example collect 45 herbs, set off two beam potions, fill the gauge, clean soot out of the cauldron, free vines or brew mixes. Complete it before you run out of moves.
- Moves left over turn into bonus potions at the end and bring points. One star for finishing, two and three for a high score.
Potions and mixes
- Beam potion (four in a row): clears the whole line along gravity, so the column while the cauldron points down and the row when it is tilted sideways.
- Bubble potion (L or T shape): clears a 3 × 3 area.
- Swirl potion (2 × 2 square): swaps six random pairs and brings new matches onto the field.
- Rainbow elixir (five in a row): swap it with an ingredient and every ingredient of that kind vanishes.
- Swap two potions with each other and you get one of 10 mixes, such as the Cross Beam (row and column), the Big Bubble (5 × 5) or the Cauldron Scrub made of two rainbows, which clears the whole field. Every new mix goes into your recipe book.
Chapters and obstacles
- Chapter 1 “Herb Kitchen”: 20 levels with five ingredients (herb, mushroom, crystal, feather, berry). This is where you learn the potions, the tilting and the soot.
- Chapter 2 “Moon Kitchen”: 20 levels with the moondrop as a sixth ingredient, vines and more mixes.
- Soot sits under an ingredient; a match on that cell wipes it away.
- Vines hold an ingredient in place: it cannot be swapped and does not slide. A match next to it or a potion's blast frees it.
- The fields come in different shapes, such as a heart, an hourglass, a ring, a moon, a star or a cauldron, from 6 × 6 to 9 × 9.
Controls
- Phone and tablet: swipe an ingredient towards its neighbour, or tap one and then the other.
- Mouse: drag an ingredient to its neighbour or click them one after the other.
- Keyboard: the arrow keys move the frame, Space selects an ingredient, and an arrow key then swaps it. Z takes back the last move, H shows a hint, P or Esc pauses.
- In the settings you can turn music and effects off separately, hide the hints, reduce motion or pick a high-contrast mode. The ingredients differ in shape as well as colour.
Tips
- Watch the gravity arrow on the cauldron's rim: the direction of your swap decides where everything slides, and so which matches fall into place next.
- Don't use potions right away: two potions side by side make a mix that clears far more than both on their own.
- A beam potion works along gravity. Tilt the cauldron first so that it clears the line you need.
- If you are stuck, the hint shows a possible move, and undo takes moves back (three times per level in chapter 1). Both are free.
Frequently asked questions
- Is BrewBurst free?
- Yes. You play all 40 levels with no sign-up and nothing to download, and there are no lives, no energy and nothing to buy. With a free PanicLines account your progress is on all your devices.
- Can I play BrewBurst on my phone?
- Yes. BrewBurst runs in the browser on phone, tablet and PC and is made for portrait mode; in landscape the recipe and the gauge sit next to the field. You can also add it to your home screen and play offline.
- What happens when I run out of moves?
- Then the level is not completed, and you start it again right away, with no waiting. If no swap is possible at all, the cauldron reshuffles the ingredients by itself without costing a move.
- What is the tilting cauldron?
- From level 6 on, the cauldron tilts after every valid swap in the direction of the swap. The ingredients then slide left, right, up or down, and new ones come in from the opposite side. An arrow on the cauldron's rim shows the current direction.
- Is my progress saved?
- Yes. Completed levels, stars, best scores and discovered mixes stay in this browser. With an account they are also kept in the portal's save game.
