Play Bridgezilla online for free
In Bridgezilla you build bridges across ditches, streams and gorges. The deck is already in place, but it carries nothing. You add rods above or below it, send a vehicle across and watch whether the bridge holds – or creaks, sags and crashes into the water.
Every rod is exactly 2 metres long and fits on one of the dashed lines. No materials, no lengths, no costs: the puzzle is only where the rods go and how few will do. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no sign-up, on phone, tablet and PC.
How it works
- The places where rods can go are dashed lines on a triangular grid. Tap a line to place a rod, tap it again to remove it. Hooks in the rock are fixed points.
- "Drive" starts the test run with real physics: rods bend, loaded rods turn orange and then red, and too much load breaks them.
- When the vehicle reaches the other side, the level is done. If the bridge collapses or the vehicle gets stuck, the plan shows which rods broke or were under heavy load. Then you keep building.
- Each level allows only a certain number of rods. Fewer rods give more stars – three stars for the smallest known solution.
Levels and vehicles
- 100 levels in 10 chapters, unlocked one after another. Each chapter gets harder as you go, and every chapter brings something new.
- Vehicles: small car, van, bus, truck, dump truck, a little train with engine and carriage and, at the end, a heavy freight train.
- Terrain: hooks in the cliff, piers in the middle of the river, pylons on the banks and a second row above the deck, all the way to wide valleys.
- Stars, fewest rods and your last design are saved for every level, so you can come back and improve a bridge.
Controls
- Phone and tablet: tap to place or remove a rod. Pinch with two fingers to zoom and drag with one finger to move the zoomed-in site.
- Mouse: click to place or remove a rod, use the mouse wheel to zoom.
- Keyboard: Space or Enter drives or goes back to building, Ctrl+Z undoes the last step.
- "Undo" takes back the last step, "Clear all" empties the site. Wide gaps also get zoom buttons; during the test run the whole bridge is always in view.
Tips for sturdy bridges
- Build triangles: a triangle of rods does not change shape. Where triangles are missing, the deck sags.
- Use hooks and piers: rods anchored to fixed points in the rock carry far more than rods hanging free.
- Watch the colours: after a test run, orange and red show where the bridge reaches its limit. That is usually where a rod is missing.
- Hold first, then save: build a bridge that surely carries the load first. Then take rods away one by one while it still holds – that is the way to three stars.
- Above or below: an arch under the deck carries the load differently from a truss above it. Try both.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Bridgezilla free?
- Yes. You play right in your browser, with no download and no sign-up. There is nothing to buy.
- Can I play Bridgezilla on my phone?
- Yes, that is what it is made for. You place rods with a tap and zoom with two fingers, in portrait mode. You can also add the game to your home screen.
- How do I get three stars?
- Use as few rods as you can: three stars are for a bridge that holds with as few rods as the smallest known solution. A few more rods give two stars, otherwise one.
- Is my progress saved?
- Yes. Without an account your stars and designs stay in this browser. With a free PanicLines account they are kept in your account and are the same on every device.
